o celebrate its 6-year anniversary, SOL Cocina will be hosting a weeklong tribute to the Super Taco, which gained its first dose of fame when it originally debuted on Chef Deborah Schneider’s menu in 2009. Beginning Tuesday, September 15th through Friday, September 18th, guests will be able to enjoy a special Super Taco available from 5 p.m. to close each day. The week’s specials will culminate on Friday, with Chef’s Deb’s most “super” taco to date, featuring a Housemade Blue Corn Masa Gordita topped with the most tender Red Chile Beef Shortribs and Avocado Salsa Taquero.

Taking her cue from roadside stalls in Baja, where taqueros serve fresh and inventive food, Chef Deb continues to shake up and recombine traditional Mexican flavors in ways that dazzle the taste buds. Following are her Super Taco features created exclusively for the celebration:

  • Tuesday, September 15th – Grilled Agave Shrimp Taco with Spicy Green Sauce
  • Wednesday, September 16th – Ghost Chile “Viper” Taco with Grilled Chicken
  • Thursday, September 17th – Roasted Butternut Squash Taco with Crispy Onions & Smoky Sour Cream
  • Friday, September 18th – Red Chile Beef Shortribs Taco with Avocado Salsa Taquero ~PLUS~ Birthday Cake for all on Friday night!

SOL’s noted Super Tacos, most popular of which is likely to be its Vampiro, have been inspired by great ideas from both sides of the border. While many flavors are traditional, Chef Deb utilizes techniques and combinations take the typical taco up to the edge – and occasionally, over it.

SOL Cocina’s anniversary specials will be available from Tuesday, September 15th through Friday, September 18th from 5 p.m. to close. SOL Cocina Newport Beach is located at 251 E. Coast Highway.
